Amber Chanta Riley & Jeremy Tarnopol
Hit & Run Perps

Pt 1: Hit and run incident

On the evening of Sunday 9th of October, 2024 our family vehicle was parked overnight in Brooklyn, when a white Toyota Highlander Hybrid (JBK-7529 NC plates) parked in a space behind our vehicle that was too narrow for the size of vehicle. A witness at the time, urging the driver not to park in the space as it was too tight. The driver ignored the warning and parked the vehicle directly into our vehicle, causing damage to the bumper.

Observing the damage in the morning I left a note with our house number and phone number to handle any damage they had caused. We also shot a video of the vehicle parked into ours. Upon departure the next day, the driver left at 11:53am (as per our video camera), causing further damage upon exiting the space, breaking our lower tail light. They ignored our note, the damage they had caused, and left the scene of the collision without responding to our note or calling the police.

Pt 2: Finding the owner and driver

We managed to track down the vehicle owner and the male driver’s details via contacts on the block and several people we have in common. The driver’s name is Jeremy Matthew Tarnopol and his companion is Amber Chanta Riley, aged 38 yrs old (July 7th birthday) .

We secured their contact details and urged them to get in touch and settle the matter. However, they have ignored every contact on the matter. We have made every effort to settle the matter amicably and track down insurance information, but are being stonewalled.

We have taken the vehicle to the workshop to get a quote to fix the damage, and it is in excess of $3,000.

Meet the Perpetrators

  • Amber Chanta Riley

    VEHICLE OWNER & PASSENGER

Amber works at Merck as a Senior Business Consultant with a demonstrated specializing in the pharmaceuticals industry. Skilled in People development, 8-step Problem Solving, GXP, Vaccines, Technical Writing and Manufacturing. Strong professional with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) focused in Chemistry from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She recently obtained a new certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) from Project Management Institute. I am unsure as to how Merck would be willing to back representatives who drive without insurance and knowingly leave the scene of accidents.

  • Jeremy Matthew Tarnopol

    DRIVER

Jeremy is a former designer, and former Brooklyn resident, now living in North Carolina. After attending the well-renowned Savannah College of Art and Design, and specializing in VR, he now jobs as a roller skating instructor in North Carolina where he lives with Amber. He’s a very capable skater - check out Amber’s TikTok, where Jeremy’s skills are in full effect. So if you’d like skating lessons from Jeremy then I encourage you to visit Caroline Skaters. Jeremy is currently open to work on LinkedIn, so if you’re looking for someone please consider him for a role (please set aside his comfort with a hit and run)

The kicker. Turns out that they had no insurance.

Here’s the funny part. Despite sending both Amber and Jeremy messages directly and through various third parties in an effort to amicably resolve the matter, they have ignored every message. So we filed a police damage report and chased the insurance. It turns out that Amber and Jeremy were driving knowingly without insurance! Now way Jose!

Turns out that Amber had NO valid insurance on her Toyota Highlander Hybrid (JBK-7529 NC plates). Her policy with Nat Insurance was cancelled on the 17th September, and only reinstated on October 19th, 2024. But Amber and Jeremy were driving between North Carolina and all over New York in that time, and damaging our family car on October 9th, 2024 in that window. Bummer, and very illegal (can result in loss of license, and of course hit and run is a crime). Alejandro Castro, a Auto liability/injury claims representative from Nat Insurance provided me those details, and the letter below.

Take a look at the ‘parking’.

Sadly it was late at night and they decided to physically wedge themselves in between two cars, and damage our family car in the process. Instead of responding to our note, they ignored it and left the next morning and caused more damage, breaking our tail light. The damage to the bumper, paint, and tail light is in excess of $3,000, which we have had to cover in the interim whilst trying to resolve the matter and recover our money.
